Mr. Nathan Szyszko comments:
There are 4 days that Rosh hashana can come out on and 3 possible
ways for cheshvan and kislev:
(1) 29 - 30;
(2) 30 - 30;
(3) and 29 - 29.
But if you study Option (1): 29,30 does not take place if Rosh
Hashanah is Shabbos or Monday.
Also if Rosh Hashana is Tuesday (only if the previous Pesach was
Sunday and thus the rarest), then combination (1): 29,30 is the only option.
Thus, only Rosh Hashana on Thursday has the 3 options for Cheshvan/Kislev.
In summary, while 12 possible options for Cheshvan/Kislev (4 times 3)
exist, in actuality only 7 combinations are possible. Rosh Hashana
Shabbos or Monday - 30,30 or 29,29; Thursday, all 3 options; and
Tuesday only 29,30.
The rarest option is Thursday 29,29 which results in Asarah b'Teves
on Wednesday. This happens when the next Pesach is on Sunday and is
also a Shana Meuberes (Leap Month - 2 Adars). This will happen unless
Moshiach comes first in 5768.
Nathan
