Re: General: Killing a fly

Daniel and Candice Cohen asked:
>>Is there a halachic problem of killing a fly in a Beit Midrash or Beit
>>Kenesest?

The Kollel replied:
>>I asked several distinguished Talmidei Chachamim if they were aware of such a
>>problem and got all negative responses.
>>Most Poskim hold that killing any bug anywhere - not just these holy places -
>>is prohibited because of Tzar Ba'alei Chayim unless there is a good reason
>>for doing so.

---------

M Schwimmer added:

According to the Noda be'Yehudah Mahadura Tinyana YD 10 (and elsewhere, see
footnote 1 in the Machon Yerushalayim edition), Tzar Ba'alei Chaim applies only
when a creature is tormented and left alive. However, when a creature is killed
outright, the prohibition of Tzar Ba'alei Chaim does *not* apply.
