2nd call for participation The Repository Fringe event continues to grow: we have a fairly full schedule now (http://eris.lib.ed.ac.uk/repofringe/?page_id=4).
Even before the event starts, there is a pre-event workshop on September 1st from Sherpa on the current & future of the RoMEO service. Tony Hirst (@psychemedia; Open University) is giving the Keynote Address, and we have presentations from Herbert Van De Sompel (@hvdsomp; Los Alamos), the ever moving EPrints team (@lescarr; Southampton), Chris Awre (@clawre; University of Hull), and Michael Fourman (@mp4man; the University of Edinburgh). There will be a number of Round Table discussions (and after the success in 2009, there will be more of them, running in parallel), and a Pecha Kucha session each day. The closing presentation will be given by Kevin Ashley (@kevingashley; Digital Curation Centre). For those looking for extra reasons to come, there are plenty: - The 'Fringe may have officially ended, but there are still a few street performers and die-hard shows running. - The International Festival does not finish until the Sunday night - Oh, and the Fireworks Concert: Sunday 5th September, 9pm: find somewhere with a good view of the castle, and tune a radio into ForthFM - ECDL is in Glasgow (trains every 15 minutes from Edinburgh), from the 6th to the 10th. We are still interested in your ideas for Round table discussions, and we are able to take a few more Pecha Kucha talks (anyone want a practice before ECDL?) Please send your ideas for Round Table discussions, or proposals for a Pecha Kucha presentation, to repofri...@gmail.com One request from the National E-Science Centre, who will try to assist participants in finding accommodation - "please book now: it is becoming very very difficult to find accommodation in Edinburgh." Hedging against uncertainties, postponing decisions when possible, recognizing that benefits, demand, and users will change, anticipating better information over time—these are the habits of mind that mark responsible digital stewardship and will help husband scarce resources while creating enough flexibility for bold moves and rescue of endangered assets when that becomes necessary. - Blue Ribbon Task Force, Sustainable Economics for a Digital Planet: Ensuring Long-Term Access to Digital Information
