I've prepared a package, which fixes all bugs and lintian issues with this package. I've prepared it as NMU. It's up to you if you sponsor it or rewrite the changelog and treat it as your upload. (In latter case mention me in the changelog)

In any case, you must pass -sa to debuild or dpkg-buildpackage, otherwise the upload will be rejected because the orig.tar.gz is missing:
dpkg-buildpackage -sa
or
debuild -sa
