Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

The discussion over the caliphate of 'Ali and his battles with Mu'awiya has
taken place extensively on our Message Forum and now has raged on to our
mailing list.  Although it is certainly a relevant topic and one that
deserves attention, this mailing list is not the forum for that.  At the
risk of sounding too much like a schoolteacher, I must ask that any further
postings regarding this topic be posted in essay/article form with
documented sources.  Otherwise, your post will be rejected.  If you simply
want to voice your opinion about the matter, you may do so as others have
done and use the message forum for that purpose.

In the next coming weeks, we (the Islamic Unification Movement) will
publish a series of articles particularly dealing with the issues
surrounding what has appropriately been called The Great Fitna.  We will
provide detailed sources and also analyze the implications that this Fitna
still has on us.  I must warn  you that this series of articles will not be
comfortable bed side reading.  Some portions will be entirely quoted from
primary sources leaving out no details and no accounts, no matter how
explicit they might be.  

Having said that, we are also pleased to announce that the One Ummah
Information Mailing List now has archives.  Starting today, each message
sent to the mailing list will be archived at the following address:
