Or maybe it just indicates the repressed social needs of what can be a lonely profession?

 

Or simply a “boys toys” thing where the toys are less macho than the norm?

 

Or because it is easier to talk in anecdotes than engage in intellectual debate?

I wish my previous post had stimulated such extensive discussion! Obviously sitting on chairs and talking to plants and fluffy toys is far more interesting ;)
