Far from it. All you need to do is make up a simple 2 conductor cable with
virtually any size wire. The pins can come from old crystals or tube bases.
Several years ago, Radio shack had some twin lead connectors with identical
spacing. Drake came out with a conversion kit for the AC-4 PS which was simply
an
RCC jack on a piece of metal which replaced the original 2 pin connector.

When wiring it up, you can use a VOM to determine polarity. One side of each
connector is a hard ground. The other lead is "hot."

It is not necessary to use the AGC circuitry and many folks do not. Follow
the AGC instructions in the L-4B manual.

Don't make the mistake that many do and try to drive the pants off the amp.
You will shorten the tube life and the signal on the other end will not differ
significantly with a few hundred watts less power from your end. Those bottles
are getting expensive and used properly, will last for many years.

I suggest that you investigate installing a soft start circuit in the amp.
There are a number of versions available, some being a simple series plug in
the
AC line. Also, when you first fire up the amp if it has been sitting a long
time, let the bottles cook at least 30 minutes or so before you hit them with
HV.

The L-4B is a great little amp. Have fun with it.
