I am not really sure what you want to do.

If you simply want to move the dspace installation directory, you need to
#1 of cause move the whole dir
#2 edit the config/dspace.cfg file in the installation directory
and change dspace.dir, log.dir, ... property values to reflect the new
location, simply search for /var/local/whereIhadpermissions/dspace and
   replace
#3 cd to the source directory, remove the build subdirectory, and recompile:

       ant -Dconfig=NEW_DIR/config/dspace.cfg update
#4 copy war files

Revisit the Installation instructions on the DSPACE
site<http://www.dspace.org/technology/system-docs/install.html>.
There is also a DSPACE HOWTO
GUIDE<http://mars.gmu.edu:8080/dspace/handle/1920/1045>that might be
helpful.

If you actually want to upgrade to a new version, the latest is 1.4.2 with
1.5 somewhere around the corner, you will have to download the new source
code and merge the changes you did to your installation into the new
version. New code is available through
sourceforge<https://sourceforge.net/projects/dspace/>

I'd like one of the gurus to supply some guidance. USC is currently
running 1.3.2 and will be upgrading to 1.4.5 upon resolution of this
issue.

Due to the manner in which institutional responsibilities are partitioned
here, it was not possible for me to install 1.3.2 exactly where I wanted
to install it. Because of permission issues, it had to be installed into
/var/local/whereIhadpermissions/dspace. Well many months later, I have
managed to get the system administrators to grant me necessary permissions
to install to /var/local/dspace.

So the question. How to I upgrade? If I copy the current instance from
where it is to where I want it, all the paths will be wrong (and I suspect
that the upgrade routine won't correct that). Any thoughts or suggestions
would be appreciated.

Thanks.
