Due to the topic of discussion of a majority of posts lately to the
e-gold list, and my current self-interest to see e-gold grow by leaps
and bounds -- becoming the standard alternative to CC's for e-commerce
(to use a cliche); I feel compelled to remind e-gold of a suggestion
posted by another person about two weeks ago on this list that could
alieviate alot of issues and attract more clients to the system.
e-gold should consider setting up an _optional_ rating/feedback system
for its clientel; somewhat akin to ebay's rating/feedback system.
Positive ratings/feedback (especially those with a large number of posts
and a long history) do wonders for a business. They are even becoming
an acceptable means of ranking "worthiness/trustability" in more
traditional milieu.
As a case in point; I've heard of several cases where one of the key
factors that helped lone entrepreneurs get loans from banks, was a
positive ebay rating accumulated over a respectable amount of time with
thousands of feedback posts. In my own discussions with loan officers at
several local banks/S&L's/credit unions in my area, I brought up the
issue of ebay ratings (doesn't really apply to me, though I do buy &
sell on ebay occassionally, I just wanted their perspective) and they
told me that while not a strong factor at this time it is considered for
some types of businesses, and has been discussed at manager meetings and
may be more heavily weighted in the future.
It would be great, for both e-gold and e-gold users, if e-gold had an
_optional_ rating/feedback system (that could be tacked on or left off
an account during account setup) for its clientel that was respected and
taken seriously by both the online & offline community. Having a rating
system available (that can be posted with pride by a business) can go a
long way towards making newcomers feel more comfortable dealing with a
new business, let along a new payment system.
A rating system like this can also take a large burden off e-gold as
far as what was proposed in the recently posted draft standards for
certain types of businesses. e-gold could still police whatever
standards it desires, but may feel more comfortable revising the final
version more towards it original "caveat emptor" & "caveat venditor"
approach. Although the e-gold system does reduce the caveat venditor
issue to practically non-existent, as opposed to merchant credit card
accounts, where the venditor is usually screwed on a regular basis, even
when the emptor is obviously lying or just plain stupid.
