Thank you for your swift reply, but can you please enlighten me why
this patch didn't look good to you?

For example, net_device::irq is queried in handling SIOCGIFMAP, which
is used by 'ifconfig' in userspace. So without this patch, ifconfig
wouldn't be able to print IRQ number of an e1000 interface.
