did you try to remove the media directory within the /lib/modules tree? maybe you have support for gzipped modules and the installation didn't update these drivers. gzipped modules would look like em28xx.ko.gz, make install only creates unpacked modules eg. em28xx.ko and it wouldn't overwrite the old module, and having both modules in the media directory is bad. try to remove any media directory within the /lib/modules tree.
