IE crashes

I know this has been covered before, but I can't seem to find it, and I'm
not sure the symptoms were the same.

If I click a URL in an E'rage message to open IE5, the latter sometimes
crashes my entire computer. The IE-launch stalls while loading prefs and
plugins and not even a forced quit is possible.

It also sometimes happens if I just try to open IE5 while E'rage is checking
mail or is in other ways active.

What have others done to get rid of this problem? Is this the dreaded MS
Media Player and if so does anybody know why this behavior exists between
apps from the same company?
