You could always adopt the opensource software method of tracking project revs. They use a 0.0.0 model. Minor changes result in a minor change. 0.0.1 becomes 0.0.2. Agreed upon revisions warrant a moderate update 0.0.1 becomes 0.1.1 and major upgrades... you get the idea.
This works, but the iiis (I think) will have it on this one ;) Long day and an even longer night ahead.
