Well, if you'll look at my reply to Robt. Bradbury, how about using a combination of a series of batteries, supplemented with a chemical heater, to provide that original heat/energy?  Dennis is just trying to figure ways to use every bit of energy as efficiently as possible, which is on point, as our ice submersible must be self-contained.
