Hello Brian,

Both, Alt-T or Alt-C and confirm the preset 1252, helps, but at the first time, 
one of these activities has to be done. Then the editor/vierwer of FC is set 
correctly to 1252. If I close and restart FC, I also have to press Alt-T or 
Alt-C.

Thus, FC remembers it only for the current session and reset it for restarting 
FC. Yes to your last answer. See my answers also below.

Do you mean that Alt-T doesn't switch to 1252?

To start with, the editor will come up in the standard code page (850 in 
your case) so is doing no translation and you toggle translation with 
Alt-T. It remembers the translation state between edits but it's reset 
if you restart FC. Is that not what you're seeing?
