Sorry, I couldn't remember how I did it last time - now i do! I don't think you can hide it by using a "hidden" option - the way I have done it is:
Place hairpin On top menu go - Smartshape - smartshape options - in the cresc/dim dialogue box - change line thickness to 0 (Unfortunately this will affect all hairpins though, not just the selected one.
