Dear FlexRadio customers: As we approach the US Thanksgiving holiday next week, it is an appropriate time to give thanks to our customers for already making 2009 another consecutive banner year. Even in one of the worst economic downturns in my lifetime, we are experiencing exceptional growth in our amateur radio sales. More recently our government/commercial business has grown with both design contracts and units purchased. You are our sales force so we want to express our sincere thanks.
In September we shipped an ultra high dynamic range, 32 channel synchronous channelized receiver system to a government customer. You can catch a glimpse at: http://www.flex-radio.com/Products.aspx?topic=CDRX-3200 and by year's end, commercial/government customers will be able to get complete specifications and order one customized for their needs! Needless to say all of this has kept us wonderfully busy for the last year. We will also deliver before year end a wideband 180 Msps direct sampling receiver to the same government customer. Just the field programmable gate array (FPGA) alone in that receiver costs as much as a FLEX-3000! Stay tuned as our website begins to reflect a new look to accommodate our expansion in the commercial and government sectors. It is our success with amateur radio SDR products that has provided the platform for us to win significant contracts in this area. There is a highly symbiotic relationship developing between the amateur and commercial SDR technologies. What we do for each benefits the other. We are adding staff and are growing at a very appropriate pace. The future of Flex Radio Systems looks very bright. We apologize that our delivery of the VU-Module and FLEX-1500 will later than originally planned. This is due not only to the fact that we have been busy completing our first government deliveries but also that we delayed both products to incorporate a number of your great suggestions. Both projects are now fully resourced, their designs complete, and now in lab testing. The FLEX-VU VHF/UHF module for the FLEX-5000 is in final alpha testing. You can see photos of the actual unit installed in a FLEX-5000 on our website home page at www.flex-radio.com . Based on our current testing status we expect to have beta units in field test before the Christmas break and production quantities in January. We've begun pre-production testing of FLEX-1500 prototypes and should be ready to post photos after Thanksgiving. We expect to have beta units in early January and volume production in Q1. You can place orders for both products on our website or contact sa...@flex-radio.com. You can also call our sales line at 512-535-5266. We have a significant pre-order backlog on both the VU-Module and the FLEX-1500 and are nearing sellout of the first production run of each. PowerSDR(TM) 2.0, which includes the new Pretty Betty user interface and Wide Band Image Rejection, has been in test for a number of weeks awaiting the final Windows 7 driver from our FireWire chip vendor. On November 3rd our chip vendor delivered their official Windows 7 driver release that included FlexRadio reported bug fixes. Microsoft chose to completely rewrite the FireWire driver in Windows 7 to support IEEE-1394b specifications. There were problems with the new MS driver that required resolution between our chip vendor and Microsoft causing a delayed release from our vendor. Many of our customers have been running on Windows 7 successfully for months using the legacy driver mode. Since we received the new FireWire driver release, a number of customers have been pre-beta testing the driver and one customer has reported a problem in the 64-bit version. Others are reporting no problems with either 32-bit or 64-bit versions. We plan to widen the beta test group soon to allow testing on more platforms before we go to a full release. If you would like to join the test group, you should become a member of the FlexEdge reflector. Once beta is complete we will do an announcement to this reflector regarding PowerSDR 2.0 and the new Windows 7 driver support. Once again, thanks to you all for making this a fantastic year and it is not over yet. 73 and Happy Thanksgiving to our US customers, Gerald Gerald Youngblood, K5SDR President FlexRadio Systems 13091 Pond Springs Rd. #250 Austin, TX 78729 Phone: 512-535-4713 www.flex-radio.com "Tune in excitement!"
