Matt,

Make sure that you have kb955408 loaded, and also with the TI controller there is another that might apply, kb952825

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/952825

Also check the Audio Sound devices in the Control panel of Windows, in the Audio tab, the flex driver should be in the pull downs, but not selected for the default , but the important one with the current driver is the last or bottom one, you should see the Flex Midi in the bottom drop down, if not , the MIDI driver did not load. At this point either uninstall the FireWire driver in the Device Window with the radio turned off, reboot and then turn the radio back on and see if all three of the drivers load, or remove the FW driver REBOOT , and then re-install the FireWire driver, and watch for the 3 drivers install. By the way, the current FireWire driver is 3.5.0.7171, which will work with 1.18.0 to the current 1.18.3 versions of PowerSDR. If you still have a problem, call Support at Flex 512-535 - 4713, I'll get you going..

Hi,

I have it on a battery system big enough to run my Kenwood through an
entire contest weekend, so I have confidence that there are plenty of
amps & volts for it. The connections are solid too. The Flex does
power up and I hear one relay click when it does.

Removing the monitor from the computer didn't make any difference. Shoot.

The cable is whatever they send with it, I assumed they wouldn't send
me junk! It has two ferrites on it, which I assumed went on the
computer side of the connection.

Using an AM radio near the monitor and computer I find no unusually
high amounts of hash. There's some of course, but it's undetectable
on a radio a few inches away.

So here's the rest:

XP sp3 32bit
FlexWire drivers 3.4.0
Radio firmware should be whatever they shipped it with, it's one day
out of the box and now I can't possibly tell you.
Powersdr 1.18.2
Texas Instruments OHCI firewire controller

Thanks guys,
Matt

Matt,

What kind of FireWire card?

First check the FireWire driver (the blue icon on your desktop) see if
basic communications is happening with the radio. If not, reboot the
computer and power down the radio and back up.
What might have happened when you started the new screen, the video memory
stepped on the FireWire driver in memory, just a guess.

Hi,

Got my F3K in the mail yesterday, and took a little time this
afternoon to try it out.

It worked fine for quite awhile, I got VAC going and com0com, got
transmit going into the dummy load and it all worked pretty good with
a few easily solved issues along the way.

But then I decided to install my second monitor so I could keep the
radio controls up while working on dm780 and rearrange the desk a
little.

Upon rebooting, the F3K can't be found anymore. Opening the
"FlexRadio" blue icon gives "No devices found" Tried calling support
but they must be busy or out early.

I've tried:

- Checking the firewire cable at least 4 times. It's correctly
inserted, the only difference is that before it was coiled up (the
flex was right above the computer) and now it's stretched a little to
3 feet.

- Checked that my firewire controller is ok. The controller shows up
in windows device mgr with no conflicts.

- Removing the FlexRadio drivers, disconnecting the F3K from the
computer, installing the drivers, reconnecting, and powering up.
Nothing.

- I thought maybe my battery's 12.6v was not enough to get the device
to initialize and talk. So I boosted it with a charger to 13.6v and
this doesn't make any difference.

Everything else on the computer is plugged in right where it was
before I moved things. The only difference between A and B is a
second monitor is now on the desktop.

Is firewire really this flaky? Any ideas to try out?
