Many (many) months back I had a build of flightgear where there was a bug-feature that actually allowed this to happen. I forget exactly how I triggered it and maybe it is/was still possible....I think it was some magic combo of reset/pause/unpause during a replay. It worked quite well and smooth on some aircraft, I remember shooting an approach over and over again by triggering it. Having it hidden and/or disabled by default should prevent most/all unintentional bad behavior.
