Mr. Herwig Marx has put together a nice collection of detail pictures of parts of the 
frame of his (no longer commercially built) "Kolibri".

Note particularly the (somehwat hidden) amidships gunwale joints and the connection of 
the (double) keelson sections (the keelsons being covered by plywood acting as a 
"sole" throughout the cockpit of this boat) on the same principle.

The frames are clearly made of plywood and beatifully shaped to avoid even the 
remotest chance of contact with the skin.

Note further the (rectangular cross section) stringers, which exhibit a stepped butt 
joint within an aluminium U-channel. The back of the channel is partially cut away. 
Presumably this saves some weight, but, more importantly, gives access to the butt 
between the stringer sections in case the joint becomes stuck due to swelling of the 
wood.
