Andreas: I used only handtools to made it and no sketch. Most important tool 
for the curves was a convex spokeshave (which is one of my favorite tools 
anyway).
 
Gabriel: The tool I probably have the most trouble with.  Would be a great 
tools for the section where the loom hits the shaft on a Greenland paddle.

Ralph: How about a crooked knife? Great discussions on these in the baidarka 
mailing list archives! For what it's worth, I can attest to how cheap they 
are: My sister has a half dozen flying around the stables because she keeps 
losing them!
