I concur.  Unfortunately, this is a function of the distro more than of the
application.  For example, OpenSSL seems to not support static linking and
is also highly distro-dependent, so a universal binary needs to omit HTTPS
support.  So there are tradeoffs.

Fossil has traditionally worked great on all systems, directly from
sources.  And the binaries are highly portable (module OpenSSL issues).
Have you seen otherwise?
