Ah yes. Everyone always wants to talk about septic systems. :-)>

I do mine every three years. And I'm always there to see what shape it's 
in when they do it. Some people go heavy on the (ahem) paper products and 
need to do it more frequently. Also more people in the household shorten 
the schedule as well. The goal is to not allow the solids to settle in so 
much that they end overflowing your tank and up fouling your leeching 
field.

I think all septic companies will tell you to do it every year on the 
premise that you must not have a leeching field.
