Hi fellow game players, I received the box with the egg and heat packs from Lyle today, about an hour or two after it arrived at the Davis, CA post office where it was held for me. The egg was not broken. It was not cushioned as much as I usually pack things, and I left it in the same position and packing I found it, slightly against one side of the box. I realize it may have shifted from center. I guessed that the box was handled fairly gently for the egg to arrive unbroken. I also re-taped a heat pack in the same position on the side of the box near, but not touching, the egg. The heat pack, the standard 40 hr, was still warm when I took it out, but not hot by a long shot. Temps were 69.1 in, 71.6 out (not sure if "out" is useful, it is Lyle?). It was about 65F outside the post office at that time, about 68F inside. Max temp in was 69.3F, min 61.4F. These temps were more than adequate to keep most gex alive for next day type shipping. Shipping to the box's next destination, Jonathan Eglinton in PA, is two days, so the temps may be significantly lower when Jonathan opens the box, although not enough to endanger the gex. I have switched to mostly using the 60 heat packs, they hold warm temps a solid two days and are supposed to have a lower peak heat than the shorter duration heat packs such as the 40hr. Apparently the heat pack Lyle used did not have a plus 100 deg peak as most heat packs claim. That seems to be a good thing, but the temps, max and arrival, were lower than I expected them to be, especially the max! I probably messed up the max/min reading for Jonathan if the clear button needed to be pressed for new max and mins to be recorded, sorry! I was in a rush, whoops!
