Relative newbie here... May I please pose a question to the group?
I have a 55 gallon tank with three p. laticauda, now approx. 7-8 months old.
I acquired them at 3-4 months old and they've been together in this habitat
ever since. The tank is well planted with lots of bark, branches, hiding
spots, etc.
My question is to the development of hierarchies and what appears to be a
dominant male gecko. I am unable to sex them and I don't know if they are
too young to do so, but the "totem pole" has been established, it seems.
This began a couple months ago when gecko #2 escaped and stayed missing for
several days. Upon recapturing her/him (?) and returning her to the tank,
she began "flirting" with gecko #1. This has continued sporadically for
several weeks.
Gecko #1 has not reacted aggresively towards #2, but he (?) is quite
aggressive with #3 -- chasing him into hiding whenever their lines of sight
cross. I've yet to see any injuries, but I'm concerned with #3 -- his color
is darker, he's much smaller, he's not as snappy with food as he once was
and he's been relagated to the end of the tank farthest away from the heat.
He stays hidden much of the time.
So, my question -- does it appear that I have two males and a female? And
should I take #3 out and give him a home of his own? I knew this could
happen if my ratio didn't turn out well, and I took my chances with
purchasing three young animals, hoping for the best. So I'm prepared to take
the proper steps to make everyone happy.
Your advice is appreciated, thanks!
Chrissy
