Julie and company,
It is foul smelling, got the
whole place stinking, tommorrow I am taking a pile of it to the vet for
fecals. We Got one the male 3 weeks ago and from day one the poo was
wet, but not what I would call runny, the two females from the same
breeder were recived 2 weeks ago, one female was a replacement for a DOA
A DOA leopard is very rare in the biz. I had a shipment of DOA leopards
sent via Delta to a customer that they screwed up and compensated me
for. That was one of the worst days in my life. 11 beautiful healthy
females I'd spent two years raising all dead. Thankfully one female I
decided not to send in that batch is one of my best and prettiest
breeders! I'd say the worst thing that has happened since with
leopards in the last 11 years other than that freak incident is
occasionally one arrives with a tail detached due to rough handling on
the shipping end. I'd say it would be a good bet that this leo had
health issues before it left as others arrived with it ok (shipping
most likely was not a problem). Not to point fingers at anyone, that
would not be fair. Some health issues may not be detected even by the
most diligent breeder.
the other was an addition the
he/she graciacily added very last minute. One of two females has light
green poo didnt see the source.
Not sure what you mean here, one female was kept separately?
The reason I have yet to post the
breeder anywhere is I like the guy and he/she has given me no reason to
smear his name, once I get a positive from the vet I will be contacting
him/her.
That is NOT what I was implying at all....if it was me I would want to
be notified right away to help guide you through this process and be
made aware I may have to do some fecals myself depending on your
results. No breeder deserves any negative publicity if they are given a
chance to work with you on the situation to correct it and do so in a
reasonable manner.
How ever it is irksome that the leo
I got from of all places Petsmart was happy healthy and tame.
I would not bet on the healthy part, tame is tame though. Big
commercial places like that often have trouble controlling health
issues due to the quantity of reptiles they deal with and dealing with
multiple sources supplying them. I would get a fecal done on this
gecko as long as you are collecting poop. ;)
The 3 purchased from the breeder
are in the same tank, My petsmart is alone now was with the other 3, as
well as my two petco juivies are seperated.
An additional question, If all 3
are positive and being medicated at the same time will it be
detrimental to have them in the same tank?
If they were kept together before and the terrarium is large then I
would do this, as long as their weights are similar. If someone stops
dropping weight then separate them out. It is important to get a scale
to make this easy to keep track of. I have a nice little Ohaus scale
that works well with leopards and smaller guys, although any little
scale will do as long as it is big enough and you can keep track of
trends.
I will be placing them on
papertowels as soon as i get the meds.
Why wait? Sand or like substrate is a place for parasites to hide. Keep
'em on paper towels and change them frequently.
Thank you Julie
You are very welcome. I am sorry you have to go through this.

Hello all,

Horrible Breath. Is this a sure sign of a parasite?
If you do know from previous experience what their poop is supposed to
look like, yes. Runny feces are a sign of some kind of stress, possibly
a parasite. Color is important as well, sick guys tend to have green,
runny bad smelling poop.
Was already planning on a fecal
exam, but was waiting till all of them were eating, new home and all.
How long have you had them? Were they all from the same source? How
many are together? A decent breeder would want to help you with this
situation also, so be sure to let them know what is going on. I'm sure
they would want to know if your leos tested positive for parasites so
they could take care of the geckos on their end as well.
You may already know this, however, incase you don't, leos with health
issues should be kept on paper towels.
Thanks for any help
Paul
PS - is there an archive for the
list?
