Well, just a simple user here who has consistantly run etc-update and my
/etc/gentoo-release also says:

*drum roll*

Gentoo Base System version 1.6.9

I'm running sys-apps/baselayout-1.11.9-r1 currently. I'm using ~x86 for
the system right now but not sure that should make a difference?
