FYI:

Dear Nilufer, dear David,

I trust this message finds you well.

You will remember the work that Kristina, Sharelle, colleagues from
NILOS/Netherlands, and others have undertaken on Marine Biodiversity in
areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ) last year.

We are very happy to announce that the results of this work have just been
published in the form of four online papers - just in time for the current
meeting of the Ad Hoc Open Ended Informal Working Group to study issues
relating to the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological
diversity beyond areas of national jurisdiction in New York.

The four papers, which form part of the new IUCN series on environmental law
and policy papers online, are:

Paper 1: An Analysis of the Regulatory and Governance Gaps in the
International Regime for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine
Biodiversity in Areas beyond National Jurisdiction,

Paper 2: Options for Addressing Regulatory and Governance Gaps in the
International Regime for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine
Biodiversity in Areas beyond National Jurisdiction,
Paper 3: Case Study on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge

Paper 4: Elements of a Possible Implementation Agreement to UNCLOS for the
conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biodiversity in Areas beyond
National Jurisdiction.

They are available at www.iucn.org/law - or directly at
http://cms.iucn.org/about/work/programmes/environmental_law/index.cfm?uNewsI
D=870 and will be presented at an IUCN side event at the Informal Working
Group meeting.

Please feel free to share the news with the group and interested colleagues.

I am also happy to inform you that Jane Bulmer ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), our
new legal officer, is now on board and part of the IUCN delegation at the
Informal Working Group meeting, together with Kristina and others.

Best regards,

Daniel
