That 3D looks suspiciously like a MIME encoding error ;-). Try

make checkone ENGINE="./gforth-fast --no-dynamic"

i.e.
make space checkone space capital ENGINE equals quote dot slash gforth 
dash fast space dash dash no dash dynamic quote
