Gimp gimp-1.1.28 (script-fu problem)

Ok i have Linux Mandrake 7.1

I build the gimp 1.1.28 
everything built and made fine....
when I start running the program
the status screen comes up and starts loading
it hangs while trying to load the "script-fu"
stuff..... nothing goes to STRERR

i also downloaded (last night) the cvs version and tried to build
that one and got the same problem.....

Note i build these from the ground up (i don't patch)
i also build them in nonstandard places.

thoughts..?
