This is not a valid comparision. You're suggestiong a wholesale name change, which is would mean major community and brand fragmentation. Right now there are more people who have voiced objections to this thread than people who have problems with the name. If you really truly wanted to make GIMP more attractive to users, you'd be encouraging people to make patches that have features that people want, or fixing real bugs. That'd make much more of a difference than any name change would.
