[Gimp-user] Background to transparent

I've been trying to do something really simple and
just not quite getting it. I have a small animated gif
(http://dating.blameitonlove.com/mods/smileys/images/roll.gif)
and I want to turn the white background transparent. Is
there an obvious way to do this that I'm missing?
