They are our representatives of history. One such historic monument is the famous St Andrew's Church at Vasco. It is one of the oldest churches in Goa constructed in the year 1570 by the Jesuits, during the first century of Portuguese rule. The beauty of the Church lies in retaining its original 16th century architectural character and aesthetic look. Its period look lends the city of Vasco its history and heritage. Now the Church is to be renovated and remodelled along modern lines which will definitely destroy its heritage character. The Church could be enlarged but the Church authorities should take into consideration the historicity of its architecture. These days, historic temples and churches are rebuilt without showing least consideration to originality. Bathroom style tiles are placed on historic crosses and shrines. In Europe, great care is taken to retain the heritage character of historic churches. Preservation and conservation of historic monuments is the thing in Europe. In our country and state we are all out to destroy our history, heritage and culture.
