Elisabeth,
Thanks. I submit to you that we are not dealing with marauding Visigoths, nor people who want to forcibly convert us, plunder us and impose their values on us. We are dealing with citizens of our own country looking for a better life for themselves. The question is: How do we treat them? How do we change our attitude to accommodate them? These are basic questions about equality, tolerance and respect for another human being. Assimilation is different matter. It is an inevitable, natural process, but an exceedingly slow one. I don't see it as undesirable in any sense because it is a bidirectional process, regulated by utility and economy of outcome. Now, the question about resources is an entirely separate one, and a much broader one at that. One could also pose it in a different way. Do we need help to produce additional resources, build infrastructure and create wealth in Goa? Perhaps, the nouveaux Goans could give us a helping hand.
