Nicholas,

Good day from the South Island of New Zealand. I've been traveling here some
months surveying tourism infrastructure.

Just off the top of my head, your question brings to mind the Green Map System
http://www.greenmap.org/ ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Map ).

Additionally, landscape architects (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landscape_architecture ) are involved with
sustainable design of recreational facilities.

Perhaps other members of green-travel (
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/green-travel/ ) will have more answers.

Cheers,

 - Marcus Endicott

Subject: insight into sustainable site tourism

Hello Mr. Endicot -

It seems as though you are the world's leader in green travel networking. I
imagine that you've been around this world a few times and have seen some
interesting things. I am hoping that you have a moment to direct me or provide
me with some insight into my question.

I am interested in some information regarding tourism. I understand that there
is a large industry involved with the idea of 'sustainable tourism'. From my
understanding "sustainable tourism" is multi-faceted, but it's main premise is
a low impact type of tourism, both environmentally and socially or culturally.

My interests lie in a type of tourism or tours to sustainable sites (green
buildings, green business', innovative energy technologies, innovative green
industrial practices, green wastewater treatment plants, etc...). Rather than
a low impact vacation, I am wondering if there exists an industry that
showcases low impact infrastructure or design within a certain city or country.
You get to know the area your visiting by touring the sustainable sites and
green innovations.

I hope that you could provide me with some insight or direction in these
regards.

Thank you for your time,

Nicholas Arsenault
