Dear Edzer,
Thank you for helping me with this. Yes, my libraries
are there in the lib file, I have attached the
commands:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] stef]$ cd /usr/local/grass5
[EMAIL PROTECTED] grass5]$ ls
bin dev driver firedata include locale
man tcltkgrass
bwidget documents etc fonts lib locks
scripts txt
[EMAIL PROTECTED] grass5]$ cd lib
[EMAIL PROTECTED] lib]$ ls
libdatetime.a libgis.a
[EMAIL PROTECTED] lib]$

Any other suggestion??
Thanks,
Stef

Stef, in which directory is your grass installation?

--Edzer

Dear Edzer,My grass directory is in: /usr/local/grass5
this isalso where I put my gstat: /usr/local/gstatI am
not running the grass binaries per se, I have theCVS..
I wonder if this is where my conflict is??
Not if the right libraries are in /usr/local/grass5/
-- my version has
libdatetime.a and libgis.a, but a short while ago I
modified the
configure script such that it also accepts the
recently renamed
libraries. What's in your /usr/local/grass5/lib/ ?

Thanks,Stef--- "Edzer J. Pebesma"

Dear Edzer,Pardon the interruption, but I am still
havingdifficulties with forcing the gstat to recognize

the

grass libraries. You suggested last time to search

on

the binaries with ~/gstat-2.4.3/src/gstat, which
Itried. To lay out the situation with more clarity,
this

what

I have done (I am running as root):1) downloaded gstat
2.4.3 to /usr/local; This is

where

my grass5 is also downloaded to and runs

successfully.

2) unpacked gstat3) In the GSTAT directory ran
./configure

--with-grass

//this did not show the grass libraries when I

went

back to GRASS>gstat -v4) looked in the /usr/local/bin
to check if the

gstat

binary is there-- yes it is. Went to the
GSTATdirectory src/ to see if the gstat binary is

there--

yes it is.5) ran in the gstat directory,
./compile--with-grass=/usr/local/grass // this did not

provide

the necessary libraries6) ran ./compile
/usr/local/gstat/src/gstat--with-grass //this gave me
warnings about a buildproblem and did not provide the
libariers7) ran
./compile--with-grass=/usr/local/gstat/src/gstat
//this

also

did not work.As always I look forward to your ideas
andsuggestions.Thanks,Stef__________________________________Do
