Dan, gstat under R cannot produce the 2D variogram maps you get in idrisi; it can only calculate directional variograms by dividing the unit circle in a number of segments. This may also do what you want. See the variogram command, alpha and beta arguments; plot.variogram deals with it automatically.
I can see the usefulness of the 2D variogram map in R; I'll put it on the TODO list.

Hi do i need to download more software if i wan to use some of the r
topics, i want to be able to use plot.varigram so that i can produce a 2d
image (similar to what you can produce in the spatial dependence modeller
in idrisi) so that i can work out the angles of maximum and minimum
variation in the data, can anyone help, how can i do this.
Cheers
Dan
