How does the Even-Shoshan editor(s) decide to change vocalizations? It used to be that "educated people" would say "mahazor," and the pronunciation "mahzor" was looked down upon. Is the explanation that Even-Shoshan is "descriptive" rather than "prescriptive"? Is the Academy of the Hebrew Language (I'm not sure what the exact name is) somehow involved in this? Thank you. -Stanley Nachamie [EMAIL PROTECTED] P.S. I'm currently looking for a new job involving cataloging and/or authority control in the Greater NYC area. Please send me any leads. Thank you. --- On Fri, 1/11/08, Joan C Biella <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > From: Joan C Biella <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: new Even-Shoshan romanizations > To: heb-naco@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu > Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Date: Friday, January 11, 2008, 8:44 AM > Yesterday the LC Hebraica Team sent the Cataloging Policy > and Support Office a list of words from the 2003 edition of > Even-Shoshan's dictionary.
