Dear Funnel and other NACO friends,

Obeying the instructions in the announcement I forwarded to you yesterday about
adding nonroman references to authority records, I checked the new version of
the "Non-Latin Script Data in Name Authority Records" FAQ at this url:

http://www.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/nonlatingeneral.html

The only differences I noted between this and the earlier FAQ dated 05/15/08
are the following:

1) The start date has been changed everywhere from "June 1, 2008" to "July 13,
2008." Well, we were expecting that.

2) More important: we are now being asked, when we create new headings with
nonroman references, to
a) set the 008/29 (Reference evaluation) fixed field to "b" (Tracings are not
necessarily consistent with the headings)--that's not new;

but also
b) add a 667 note reading "Non-Latin script references not evaluated" or a 667
note reading "Non-Latin script reference not evaluated."

Each of you who plans to add nonroman references should read the whole FAQ
carefully before you begin. However, these are the only new points I've found
dating from a time later than my presentation at AJL.

Good luck!
Joan
