Another example of vocalization differences between earlier editions of Even-Shoshan and the 2003 edition: Earlier, Even-Shoshan vocalized “Hazal” with hatef patah in the first syllable; now, he puts kamats gadol in the first syllable. This doesn’t alter our romanization of “Hazal,” but it means that if ve-, be-, le-, or ke- precede, they must be vocalized as such--ve-Hazal, le-Hazal, etc. Formerly, va-Hazal, la-Hazal, etc. were correct.
