No big action alert here, just a heads-up if you're a fan of VegeUSA's
Vegetarian Ginger "Chicken"...
I was trying to get some of VegeUSA's Vegetarian Ginger "Chicken" into a
local store, so was doing a little label research. Long story short --
turns out the label is WRONG! It is *not* Vegan. Due to some snafu in
interpretation the ingredients label (from Taiwan), the current label
doesn't list *whey* even though it *is* an ingredient.
No need for nasty letters to VegeUSA, but you might want to applaud their
promise to reformulate many of their items to be Vegan. They are also
reworking the labeling process to be more clear.

Sorry to keep you waiting. I just got words back from Taiwan last night.
This product does contain Whey Protein. On this specific label (the
plastic pouch pack), the Chinese character actually stated Whey Protein,
but when the printer did the proofing, they thought Whey protein and
Wheat protein are the same things and it was a typo that the same word
was typed twice. (The printer didn't have a good command on the English
language, and they thought the two words' shape looked the same). As a
result, they removed one of the ingredients.
We are very sorry for the printing mistake, and we will take immediate
action to correct the label. We will replace the incorrect label on all
existing inventory immediately. Thank you very much for bringing this
to our attention.
Due to the increase in our awareness of the vegan consumers, we are
taking actions to make our product friendlier to the vegan consumers.
We are starting to revise the product names to reflect vegan and
vegetarian versions. The vegan items will be labeled Vegan at the
front, and the vegetarian items will be labeled Vegetarian at the front.
In addition, we are changing many of our popular items' formulation to
be vegan. Currently, we have Vegan Shrimps, Vegan Jumbo Shrimp, Vegan
Lobsters, and more. Vegan Ginger Chicken is currently under development
and scheduled to be launched later this year.
Once again, we are very sorry. Please let me know if there is anything
we can do to help.
