I wish to discuss aspects of the Muslim idea of perjuangan (struggle) with our so-called leader of an 'Islamic state'. My conclusion from reading his interview is that Mahathir doesn't know the first thing about what an Islamic perjuangan requires. > > There are many points that the above thesis can be ascertained but I wish to point out only two places in his interview. > > In the first place Mahathir had lamented about his view that he has failed to change the Malays by remarking "saya dah merayu, dah menangis dan dah berdoa" (I've pleaded, cried and prayed) and yet still the Malays remain unresponsive to him. > > I will take up the issue of whether Malays have changed (not necessarily because of him) at the end of this letter. I wish to raise the point that Mahathir mentioned that he had performed the doa (supplication). > > From my reading one can conclude that Mahathir is frustrated that even supplication to God was not enough to change the Malays. I wish to explain to the readers that in Islam as taught by the Prophet, one can never be in despair if one's prayers or supplication seems to be unanswered. Allah in his wisdom may have other plans or other ways of 'answering' our prayers. > > One can never take the position that since Allah will not answer a supplication thus one should give up praying or offering doa. If one takes that position, then there is something really wrong with one's faith in Islam. For a leader of an 'Islamic State' this is all the more a cause for concern. > > Secondly, when asked what he would do if given a chance to relive his life, Mahathir answered that he would just like to be an Umno member and not its president since he would never be able to change the Malays, regardless of any action he undertakes. > > In Islam, a pure perjuangan is undertaken because it is a responsibility to be fulfilled. The Muslim pejuang (fighter) would do his utmost to think of the best strategy to achieve the desired end result. After implementing his plans, he would then be in a state of tawakkal (leaving the matter with God). > > Allah does not allow Muslims to merely leave things to fate but to strive their utmost to bring about changes for the better. For Mahathir to 'give up' just because he felt the Malays would not change meant he was doing so for his personal satisfaction and agenda, not for the good of Islam or even for the sake of fulfilling his obligation to Allah. > > For a Muslim, God will not judge the end result of his actions but will judge the purity of intention, the personal scarifices made and the methodology or approach that a person was able to perform. End results are for God to decide. > > It is not for Mahathir to change the Malays but for God to decide. We mortals can only plan and strategise as best as we can. That is all that is expected of Muslims. Again as a so-called leader of an 'Islamic state' Mahathir shows poor attitude indeed. > > Finally I wish to take up the point that Malays have not changed. If Mahathir meant Umno Malays, then I agree with him 100 percent. But if he meant all Malays, then I think he needs a reality wake up call. > > I am a Malay and have 25 books written with over 100 academic papers to my name. I am nowhere near the age of 50. In many national seminars about art, technology or science, I can see the Malay academics coming to the fore in droves. > > My children tops the academic charts in a non-Malay dominated schools. If Mahathir does not realise this, then I think he is a poor leader trapped in the past as with the many Malay professors without a book to their name. > > We are the new Malays, Mahathir. Leaders who do not recognise this should move on or ship out. Or is Mahathir still playing the tired old song of 'the Malays are still weak and they still need me to hold their hands' bit? The new Malays are wiser than that, Mahathir. > > Thus I conclude that we either have a frustrated leader who certainly must let go of the premiership or a whining leader who feels unneeded. Either way, he should make way for others. > > > > > > http://www.geocities.com/bawebmy/pasnetwork.html > > http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pas-news/ > > http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ceramah-net/ > > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > - Tambahkan cawangan > - Tambahkan Ahli > - Aktifkan Cawangan > - Tingkatkan keupayaan IT > - Pentingkan dialog , kebebasan memberi pendapat-pendapat berlainan > - Tindakan kolektif menentang kezaliman > > > -- > __________________________________________________________ > > Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com > > http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup > > > > Save up to $160 by signing up for NetZero Platinum Internet service. > > http://www.netzero.net/?refcd=N2P0602NEP8 > > > > ------------------------ Yahoo!
