Seperti pendahulunya, the Jerusalem Bible, Alkitab ini diterjemahkan langsung
dari bahasa asli Alkitab seperti Ibrani, Aramaik, dan Yunani. Perjanjian Lama
menggunakan naskah Masora, namun jika ditemukan masalah, maka dipergunakan
Septuaginta. Ayat-ayat yang ditemukan dalam Septuaginta menggunakan huruf miring
(italic) demikian pula kutipan Perjanjian Lama di dalam Perjanjian
Baru.
Salah satu ciri khas Alkitab ini adalah menggunakan kata Ibrani
Sabaoth.

Salah satu topik yang sering dipermasalahkan adalah penggunaan kata
spouse (pasangan hidup) menggantikan kata perempuan atau
istri.
