Do we know if this *BUG* still exists in 2006.2? As a hosting company that was hoping to deploy 2006.2 to replace an aging IMail installation instead of switching to another mail platform (Merak or SmarterMail) -- I'm quite horrified at the prospect of this bug and how it will impact the simple addition of new domains to our mail systems...I can't wrap my head around the reasoning that goes into requiring service restarts on adding/removing domains and domain aliases... Can someone from Ipswitch comment on this bug and its status in 2006.2? Please and thank you... On 2/16/07, Darin Cox <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
I agree. Kevin, this is a bug that should be fixed. Requiring a restart of services because of a change for a single customer takes mail services offline for all customers. Since many customers call at the first error, it also means we get a number of phone calls due to the interruption of service, even if only for a minute or two. Is this also the case in 2006? If so, please get this fixed in both 8.22and 2006. You have to restart SMTPD and the Queue Manager for the changes to take. ===================== That seems like a very flippant response. Are we suppose to just shrug that off? Do you have any idea how many Control Panels that broke? It certainly broke mine! Could I fix that? Yes, I could. Then the mail server disappears from the internet every time we add or delete a domain or an alias. Was this change ANNOUNCED? This is a real step backwards. If I had to stop and restart my web servers every time I added or deleted a web site, my customers would LOVE that. Is Ipswitch working on a fix for this problem? Any idea as to whether 2006 is similarly afflicted? The vulnerability patch released on/or about 11/7/2006 has that issue. This was not required with 8.15, but with 8.22 I've noticed specific cases of having to restart services for IMail to recognize virtual domain aliases or deletion of a virtual domain. Do similar problems exist in 2006? Having to restart services for changes like this is extremely undesirable. Darin.
