Sorry I can't help. Just wanted to commiserate. <smile> I'm having the same problem. Windows XP Pro with Outlook 2003 (both fully patched). Exact same error condition/message. A restart of Outlook doesn't always fix it though. Most of the time I have to delete the outcmd.dat file before things will start working again. While trying to fix this, I've tried several things: - NIC Setting: Tech Suport recommended changing the TCP Segmentaion Offload (Large Send Offload) setting on the server's NIC card. That did seem to lessen the problem. - Disable virus scan: We use Symantec Client Security 3.1 which scans messages on the way out. I disabled that option, but I don't think it had an effect. Still looking for a solution, Denise _____

'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).' The machine in question is running Outlook 2003 with all the latest packs and patches. It can telnet to port 25 on the Imail 8.22 server, but any attempt to talk to the SMTP server fails with the above message unless I exit Outlook and re-open it. It's odd as heck. I've done some looking on Google and it supposedly was fixed with SP2, as I'm running SP2 I'm lost. Not sure if this could be something unique to Imail either. any ideas?
