Sound card config under Linux 2.2.1

I have just upgraded the Linux kernel on my Inspiron 3200 to version 2.2.1.
I configured the sound card exactly the same way as for kernel 2.0.36 and
although it seems to work fine it is a lot quieter than it used to be.  I am
using the CS4232 driver.  Is it meant to be this quiet or is there something
wrong with my config?
