Hi Jerry, What you have really discovered in your canabalistic cooped-up parrot,s behavior lis due to a lack of trace minerals. During the mid 70's our work with agri diets included addition of a mined humate (low grade coal scattered free choice on the concrete floor) to the diets of confined hog operations; they would loosetheir canabalistic habits of chewing the tails and ears of their companions, loose their tendency to develop athrophied rhinititis, become more relaxed and settle down to gain market weight in only 36 hours. Purdue veterinary research was left scratching their heads on this one. Results were the same for cooped-up manufactured chickens. Lack of minerals and appropriate trace minerals is the major cause of ADDand ADHD in todays childern. Reference: Dr. John Ott, HonPHD (of time lapse photo fame) circa l960's. C.Corson
Thanks for that info! He IS a cannibal, eats chicken and loves the bones, eats beef, eats candy, fruits, veggies and seeds of course...hates bread... What you wrote rings true because of a recent post about diet changing behavior in kids!!! http://www.odemagazine.com/article.php?aID=4143 10/02/05 - The solution to crime & violence is on your plate The vending machines have been replaced by water coolers. The lunchroom took hamburgers and French fries off the menu, making room for fresh vegetables and fruits, whole-grain bread and a salad bar. Is that all? Yes, thats all. Principal LuAnn Coenen is still surprised when she speaks of the astonishing changes at the school since she decided to drastically alter the offering of food and drinks eight years ago.I dont have the vandalism. I dont have the litter. I dont have the need for high security. Stephen Schoenthaler, a criminal-justice professor at California State University in Stanislaus, has been researching the relationship between food and behaviour for more than 20 years.
He has proven that reducing the sugar and fat intake in our daily diets leads to higher IQs and better grades in school. When Schoenthaler supervised a change in meals served at 803 schools in low-income neighbourhoods in New York City, the number of students passing final exams rose from 11 percent below the national average to five percent above. He is best known for his work in youth detention centers.
One of his studies showed that the number of violations of house rules fell by 37 percent when vending machines were removed and canned food in the cafeteria was replaced by fresh alternatives. He summarizes his findings this way:
Having a bad diet right now is a better predictor of future violence
than past violent behaviour.
