Call for Applications Type: Research Fellow on Philosophy of Religious Cultures and Diverse Identities Institution: School of Humanities, University of Hertfordshire Location: Hatfield (United Kingdom) Date: from October 2017 Deadline: 21.8.2017 __________________________________________________ Full time position Vacancy ID: 014882 UH7 £32,004 - £38,183 per annum dependent on skills and experience Fixed term contract for 5 years from October 2017 The Fellow will add to existing research in the Philosophy Group in one or more of the following areas: the nature of a culture; religious identities; the relation of cultures to the negotiation of diverse identities in the contemporary world (e.g. gender, class, religious faith or background); virtues and character strengths; social and political philosophy; and feminist philosophy. Candidates interested in developing a detailed philosophical account of the relations between several of these research strands are particularly welcome. The Fellow will bolster the research base of the Philosophy Group and actively support the work of other members of the Group. The successful candidate will produce a portfolio of publications for the next REF that meets the high standards expected by the Philosophy Group. This will ideally include a monograph. They will also be expected to seek external funding opportunities (including in collaboration with existing staff). Our ideal appointment would be an academic entrepreneur, interested also in developing projects, organising events and in aiding the development of ongoing research impact work within the Group. We will expect the successful candidate to teach on the Philosophy and Religious Studies pathways, but they will be given a relatively modest teaching load. Skills and Experience needed The post holder should have a record of research publication in one or more of the areas of philosophy related to the topics listed above, including some publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals. They should have some experience of teaching philosophy at undergraduate level, including setting and marking assessments. All colleagues in the Philosophy Group must demonstrate an ability to teach across a broad range of philosophical topics. The Fellow will have the skills to contribute to the research of the Philosophy Group through the organization of events and the development of collaborations with colleagues and external partners. A clear and developed plan for future research and grant capture in the areas of the fellowship would be desirable. The Fellow should have experience of disseminating research findings in oral and written formats and to scholarly and general audiences. Experience of engaging directly or working with public audiences would be desirable. At a personal level, the Fellow must be approachable and will be able to establish good working relationships with colleagues, collaborators and students.
