UH7 £32,004 - £38,183 per annum dependent on skills and experience
Fixed term contract for 5 years from October 2017

The Fellow will add to existing research in the Philosophy Group in
one or more of the following areas: the nature of a culture;
religious identities; the relation of cultures to the negotiation of
diverse identities in the contemporary world (e.g. gender, class,
religious faith or background); virtues and character strengths;
social and political philosophy; and feminist philosophy. Candidates
interested in developing a detailed philosophical account of the
relations between several of these research strands are particularly
welcome.

The Fellow will bolster the research base of the Philosophy Group and
actively support the work of other members of the Group. The
successful candidate will produce a portfolio of publications for the
next REF that meets the high standards expected by the Philosophy
Group. This will ideally include a monograph. They will also be
expected to seek external funding opportunities (including in
collaboration with existing staff). Our ideal appointment would be an
academic entrepreneur, interested also in developing projects,
organising events and in aiding the development of ongoing research
impact work within the Group.

We will expect the successful candidate to teach on the Philosophy
and Religious Studies pathways, but they will be given a relatively
modest teaching load.

above, including some publications in reputable peer-reviewed
journals. They should have some experience of teaching philosophy at
undergraduate level, including setting and marking assessments. All
colleagues in the Philosophy Group must demonstrate an ability to
teach across a broad range of philosophical topics.

The Fellow will have the skills to contribute to the research of the

development of collaborations with colleagues and external partners.
A clear and developed plan for future research and grant capture in
the areas of the fellowship would be desirable.

The Fellow should have experience of disseminating research findings
in oral and written formats and to scholarly and general audiences.
Experience of engaging directly or working with public audiences
would be desirable.

At a personal level, the Fellow must be approachable and will be able
to establish good working relationships with colleagues,
collaborators and students.

The University offers a range of benefits including a pension scheme,
professional development, family friendly policies, child care
vouchers, a fee waiver of 50% for all children of staff under the age
of 21 at the start of the course, discounted memberships at the
Hertfordshire Sports Village and generous annual leave.
