I was able to get ion-2 working under OS X.
I had to run configure with --disable-shared.
It seems that the version of de/brush.c in the ion-2-20040601 tarball
is missing the functions destyle_get_mentbrush_border_widths and init_sub_ind_w.
I pulled some from the SVN repository and cobbled something together. It seems
to run fine. I've attached a patch. Works for me. YMMV.
