A Close-up Look at Mars Dr. James Zimbelman, Smithsonian Center for Earth and Planetary Studies Tuesday, Sept. 11. 7:00pm Lakeview Museum in Peoria, Illinois Free Presentation open to the public Description: The lecture reviews what we have learned about Mars both from early Earth-based telescopic studies and from early spacecraft missions, followed by the present view of the planet based on data returned by the Viking, Pathfinder, and Mars Global Surveyor missions. This information provides the basis for current plans of the next spacecraft missions to Mars, hopefully leading to international piloted missions to the red planet.
